7 ways people are being stupid without realizing it
Here's a subtle explanation why some people just refuse to learn (t's not all about ego)
I’ve come to understand most idiots overestimate themselves and smart people underestimate their strengths. Most people lack awareness. They think they are smart but not. They think they are competent but not.
The world is full of idiots dancing around telling other people how to dance in the wrong way.
Because of social media - everyone is able to give their thoughts freely without consequences. Because of that - we’ve got millions of wanna be intellectuals who always have something to say.
Who always got an opinion even if the said opinion is hopelessly shit. But people do not see it that way. Because most people lack depth and understanding about themselves. They don’t even know their strengths and weaknesses.
Today’s letter is about why you shouldn’t care too much about the opinions of other people. It’s a simple practical guide how much BS is being said everyday by uncredible people
I’ve met plenty of people who are too egotistical to admit their mistakes and short comings. And they always end up the same.
They talk but never walk the walk. Always promising, always setting a future tale -only to have no results to back it up. Ego talking over truth.
Let’s start.
1) Not listening
When you are in a conversation - most people have the need to show themselves as smart and knowledgeable.
It’s human nature ingrained in each of us. We always seek to impress never to learn. That is why most people are failures.
Instead of being able to make progress- they would rather make illusions about how good they are - only to be broken once they enter adulthood.
Most people suck at listening. They only want to respond in order to impress and to look smart.
Intelligent people know when to shut up and let the other person speak to learn.
2) Confidence without competence
By far the thing that plagues society most is charismatic men who suck at their jobs.
But because everyone likes them - no one sees the mistakes they are doing.
The salesman who is good with his words will always be seen as more impressive that the Developer who can solve 20 bugs in 1 hour - because people like the salesman more than the quiet and weird Developer.
People follow confidence like a drug.
Because most people don’t have any self-esteem. They don’t know what it’s like to believe in themselves that’s why when they see someone confident - they can’t help but feel a sense of admiration even if it leads to envy.
That’s why arrogance is attractive. Men who believe they can do it without proof are seen as charismatic.
Undeniable confidence and arrogance are different. However most people suck at learning which is which.
Because they are so similar, it’s near impossible to differentiate confidence between arrogance.
Do you know why villains are liked by some people?
Arrogance; because arrogance symbolizes most people’s desire to be oneself freely - to not give a fuck about what other people say and act like they want to be.
Bust most people are not.
That’s why the arrogant is seen as charismatic even if he is not.
The easy way to spot arrogance is letting the results talk. When someone always talk the talk but never walk the talk - that’s when you know you’re dealing with an arrogant person.
Competence is silent but always loud when results come in.
3) Close Mindedness
Ignorance is the most dangerous type of stupidity. When someone thinks they already know enough - they stop learning and growing.
When curiosity dies and arrogance lives - you have experts who believe in every word they say and hate anyone who is trying to disprove their theory.
Close mindedness is when you think you’re better than anyone. It’s the same as arrogance but this time you never consider anything outside of your perspective. And if you do - you think it’s wrong.
Refusing to see new worldviews and opinions carries a different type of idiocracy even idiots would laugh at how idiotic it is.
4) Ego over truth
Most people suck at managing their emotions. So when someone disproves of what they believe is true - they get angry not because you are right, but because you just touched their ego.
You just said “you’re wrong and I’m right” and they interpret it as; “I’m above you and you’re below” and most people can’t take it.
Any ordinary adult always have an ego. The size is what differs. Some take it silently while planning to take revenge and others outright disprove you because they want to believe they are right and you are wrong - even if the facts says otherwise.
Touching other peoples ego for no reason is dangerous.
So learn to discern whether what you’ve said is hurtful or not.
Or just shut up.
Being quiet is a skill many people lack.
5) Surface knowledge
Most people don’t actually believe in what they way - they say whatever it is they know.
They repeat what they know because other people have repeated it. And what you get is a herd of sheep following a wolf blindly.
When you try to disprove of someone when they clearly lack knowledge and they insist they know better than you - just stop.
You are dealing with an idiot. It doesn’t matter if it’s a friend or someone close to you. Maybe they’ll grow up to learn better (or not).
Like I said most people want to impress not learn. Because it soothes their ego more.
6) Being an idiot is not always about IQ
When I say idiot I do not mean intellectually dumb people. They are different.
What I mean is average people with average intellect who refuse to learn and grow.
Most people we call idiots aren’t really idiots.
But just immature and ignorant adults.
The know it all mindset plagues most people.
When arrogance refuses correction - that’s when you know you are dealing with a true idiot. Not being able to discern truth from feelings is a skill most people die never having.
Not everyone deserves to be an idiot. But people deserve to experience what it’s like to be an idiot in order to learn and grow. Because most people refuse to climb out of that safe zone. That’s why they remain as idiots.
Classic
Look at the example above.
This persons action was justified. But clearly he didn’t think it through.
He became emotional. He judge and made decisions too quick. Now the evidence of his shortsightedness remain.
That’s what I mean by idiots.
Most idiots never think through about future consequences, and thus they make the wrong judgement and create problems.
But in this case the person is not an idiot. But a representation of what an idiot would do (he learned and admitted his fault).
The degree of problem differs. The above example is seen as harmless to you and to me.
But to the restaurant owner - that 1 star will affect his business. Not big enough it’ll make him go bankrupt but enough to make his head scratch.
It wasn’t the restaurant’s fault that the man didn’t get his toilet paper for over 15 minutes - but his shortsightedness.
Widen your perspective. Think more deeply. Clarify your thoughts often.
Being an idiot is a curse.
I hope you’re not one. When a statement hurts your feelings- don’t react or respond negatively. Or you’ll become an idiot as well.
Being an idiot is a choice.
Don’t be. one
That’s all
See you next time
